Biography
Derek Reich is an Emmy award winning videographer with over 30 years of experience based in the Reno, Nevada area. From documenting the LA Riots for CBS to interviewing the Dalai Lama with Dan Rather to having grizzly bear cubs crawl all over him for Animal Planet, Derek is a versatile cameraman. His list of clients includes every major news network, government agencies, non-profit organizations, as well as other major networks like AXS, Showtime, National Geographic among many others.
When not setting up at 3 AM for live shots to the east coast, Derek devotes his time and talents to advocate for bears and other wildlife. He believes strongly in ethical work and when it comes to wildlife, he is adamant about not causing stress to any animal while trying to get that perfect shot! When it comes to wildlife education, Derek happily donates videos to non-profit organizations trying to educate the public. As a result, he sits on the board of the non-profit organizations The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center and The Vital Ground Foundation.
Derek is capable of working as part of a crew or running as a 1-man band. He has traveled extensively across the globe with large equipment packages and is experienced with carnet requirements. Derek’s passion for nature and wildlife has him specializing in science, most recently as part of the Wonder Collaborative and was DP for the documentary film Human Nature. He is broadly skilled with live broadcasting, documentary and corporate productions, aerial (FAA licensed drone pilot) and still photography.
